At Eastfield Primary School, we are committed to providing a high-quality mathematics education that enables every child to achieve and succeed. We believe that all pupils can become confident and capable mathematicians through carefully sequenced teaching, high expectations and appropriate support.

Our curriculum is designed around the principles of Teaching for Mastery, ensuring that pupils develop a deep, connected and secure understanding of mathematical concepts. Through rich mathematical experiences, children build conceptual understanding, recognise patterns, make connections across different areas of mathematics and develop the confidence to apply their learning in a variety of contexts.

We are committed to ensuring that all pupils have access to the same ambitious curriculum. Through responsive teaching, effective use of manipulatives and representations, mathematical discussion and timely intervention, we support pupils to keep up with their learning and achieve their full potential.

We aim for all children to:

 

• Become fluent – develop secure conceptual understanding and automatic recall of key facts, enabling them to calculate accurately, efficiently and flexibly.

• Reason mathematically – identify patterns, make connections, construct arguments, justify their thinking and communicate ideas using precise mathematical language.

• Solve problems confidently – apply their mathematical understanding to a range of contexts, demonstrating resilience, independence and perseverance.

• Think mathematically – explore, question, investigate and make sense of the mathematics they encounter.
