SEN and Inclusion
Special Educational Needs (SEN) at Eastfield Primary
Eastfield primary is a fully inclusive mainstream school, we welcome all children and value them as individuals. We believe that every child has the right to have their own particular needs recognized and addressed in order to achieve success. At Eastfield, all teachers are teachers of children with special educational needs, we work together as the team, in partnership with pupils and their parents, to ensure that pupils realise their full potential.
The SEND Code of Practice provides statutory (required in law) guidance for schools working with children with special educational needs and disabilities. It says that all children are entitled to an education that enables them to make progress so that they: • Achieve their best • Become confident individuals living fulfilling lives, and • Make a successful transition into adulthood, whether into employment, further or higher education or training. Some children who have SEN may also have a disability. A disability is described in law as: ‘a physical or mental impairment which has a long-term (a year or more) and substantial adverse effect on their ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities.’ Equality Act 2010. This includes, for example, long term health conditions such as cerebral palsy, as well as sensory impairments such as hearing loss.
